1. Supported Browsers

The only browsers we've tested with are Firefox and Internet Explorer 6+. If the profile editor takes off, we'll try to make sure it works on Opera and Safari too.

The Profile Editor works best with Firefox! This is because Firefox has faster and better scripting capabilities. It is also free, and more secure than IE. If you are using IE, you should really, really use Firefox.

2. Previewing your Layout

When you make a change, you should see the change right away in the sample profile.

If you are using Internet Explorer and you don't see the change, then you might have to hit the "Tard Bar" to get your preview.

3. Uploading Your Layout

When the sample profile looks the way you want, click the Code tab:

Then, click in the box with the code it in. This will select the code for your layout. Copy the text by hitting Ctrl-C or by using the Edit->Copy command from your browser menu.

Next go to MySpace.com, and choose "Edit Profile". Paste the code into the top of the "About Me" section of your profile. You might have to delete the codes from any other layouts.

4. Setting a Background Color

Make sure the Backgrounds Tab is selected:

Click the "Use Background Color" checkbox. Choose "Pick Color" to launch the Color Picker.

5. Setting a Background Image

Make sure the Backgrounds Tab is selected:

Click the "Use Background Image" checkbox:

There are two ways to use a background image.

  1. Type the URL of the image next to where it says "Image URL". You must have already uploaded a photo to do this. You can use a photo upload site like photobucket.com to upload your own custom image.

  2. Better, try one of the Grumpy Chimp backgrounds. Just click "Select from Grumpy Chimp Backgrounds!!!" This will the load the background chooser window. Pick your category, and click on the background you want.

If the image doesn't fit the screen the way you want, try fooling around with the settings for "Tiling", "Scrolling" and "Position".

6. Setting the Color of Your Tables

Make sure the "Tables" Tab is selected:

Click the "Use Background Color" checkbox. Choose "Pick Color" to launch the Color Picker:

In this example, the tables are colored purple:

7. Table Borders

Make sure the "Tables" Tab is selected:

Click the "Use Border" checkbox. Adjust the color, style, and width of the border:

In this example, the table has a 4 pixel black border with a style of "dashed":

8. Transparency Options

Make sure the Tables Tab is selected:

Click the "Use Transparency" checkbox.

The Outer Table is that white box that surrounds your profile.

Outer Table Opaque Outer Table Transparent

Inner Table transparency allows the background to shine through, but makes your text harder to read:

Opaque 90% Opaque 60% Opaque

9. Changing the Text Size, Font, and Color

Make sure the Text Tab is selected:

To change all the text, click on the "All Text" box and change the text properties. This is not recommended, though. It will look better to change each type of text separately.

For links there are two options. One represents how the links looks normally. The other is how the link will look when the cursor hovers over it.

10. The Color Picker

In computers, a color is made up of Red, Green, and Blue components. Each of these can have a value between 0-255. Use the sliders in the color picker to adjust the amount of red, blue, and green in your color.
